The loss of the normal traditions we’re mourning brings with it new opportunities. In the past, most were lucky to attend worship services on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. For too many, day-to-day activities would get in the way of Maundy Thursday observances of the Last Supper and Good Friday Tenebrae services.

This year, being relegated to online worship only (all public worship remains suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic), we are able to offer all four Holy Week observances as online worship videos for you to observe at home:

  • Palm Sunday (10:30 a.m., April 5) – we’ll celebrate Jesus’ triumphant ride into Jerusalem.
  • Maundy Thursday (7:00 p.m., April 9) – join us for a very special service to commemorate the Last Supper. You’re encouraged to have bread and water available during the service in order to share the Love Feast with your household in lieu of traditional communion.
  • Good Friday (3:00 p.m., April 10) – beginning at 3:00 p.m., the time of day it is believed Jesus drew his last breath on the cross, we’ll be focusing on the Tenebrae … the last words He spoke before his death.
  • Easter Sunday (10:30 a.m., April 12) – He is risen! Join us as we celebrate Christ’s victory over death and resurrection and the hope it brings to the world.

Each service’s video will release a few minutes before the time indicated above in order to give you time to gather your household. If you’re unable to join us at the designated time, the videos will be available on-demand.

We encourage you to set aside time this week to join us in praise, worship, and prayer.

Peace and grace,

Rev. Val Ohle, Bethel UMC
